Back Country Booters
Posted by: Claire
As if my work out wasn't enough.
While at the gym, I get harrassed by my buddy Eric Soucy who is a trainer there. I'll hear things like, "I'm watching you!", from across the room or, "put more weight on, you can lift more than that, come on!", as I nearly collapse from exhaustion.
Okay, it's not that bad. But Eric gets me stoked and its getting me stronger so that I won't get my ass kicked any worse by the likes of Sabrina Jonnier, Rachel Atherton, the list goes on..........
Anyways, I was finishing my work out and Eric says, "meet me at the bottom of Creekside Gondola at 2:15pm." There was no fresh snow for a few days so we decided to go build a booter out of bounds where we could land in fresh pow. So I meet him there, a little shaky from my work out with board in hand, and we caught the last chair up peak to access the backcountry.
We found a prime spot right away tucked into the trees with a nice run in and a steep untouched landing and got digging. Little did I know that I would be deadlifting massive blocks of snow for the booter(which apparently was pretty small in Erics eyes), breaking trail for a boot pack and digging out a run in! Not to mention hiking the jump to hit it numerous times............
Eric is one of those guys who nobody knows about but the locals respect. He is one of the best snowboarders in Whistler and he rips! Here is a budget photo of him (that I was pretty proud of) hitting our jump.
All in all, it was super fun and the feeling of landing in fresh always made you giggle.......We had a good time. Thanks Eric! Hope you all are having fun out there too.
