Vozi Bre in Belgrade/Serbia
Posted by: Joscha
Last weekend I flew to the Red Bull Vozi Bre Freeride Comp in Belgrade/Serbia. Visiting Belgrade was a great experience. It has a beautiful old town, especially the old fortress called "Kalemagdan" with its great view over the city and the river Donau is really impressively. The people in Belgrade are one of the nicest in the world, and the women the most beautiful. Trond Hansen agrees!
The contest course was a little bit scary at first, especially because of all the wooden landings. But after some practise it was really fun to ride. The team of Berlin's Mellowpark built the course and they did a good job! The start gave us a lot of speed for the first step-down and the following "not small" jumpbox. If you went too high on the wallride, you probably had a free fall of 50 meters. The last Box was way too small for the speed you got after the drop.
Jamie destroyed the whole course before everybody else got the chance. He started first and won the comp with a super sick massive perfect backflip off the biggest drop. Jamie, you deserved the gold, man!! 2nd place got the brave knight Lance McDermott from the United Kingdom. His highlights were a superclean n clicked turndown-flip, frontflip and a smooth high flair in the quarter.
My contest weekend was full of up n downs. I crashed pretty bad in practise on the biggest drop with the kicker, because of a gust of wind, slid down the whole landing on my back and got a lot of beautifull big abrasion. The pain wasn't that much until the ambulance woman cleaned the wounds with pure alcohol. Damn. I was close to pass out. Eventhough I rode the qualifying, had a good run with a perfect tailwhip, jumped the big drop, did a superseater over the last big box, but crashed, again because of the wind. It wasn't enough for the final, so I placed 12th at the end.
The wind was a big problem during this contest. Some riders even didn't start because it was really dangerous sometimes. The organizers decided to start one hour later with the qualifying, but there were still some gusts of wind sometimes. Luckily no rider got injured seriously!
by the way... you should never choose the flight company "AlItalia". It's the worst! On the way to Belgrade they lost my bike (luckily I got it back early enough), and my flights back home were just cancelled. So I had to take the flights the following day. And compared to other flight companys they charge you the double prize for your bike. So, never book an Alitalia flight!
