Jordtron Jumpathon
Posted by: Claire
The Black Box Labs Invitational Jordtron Jumpathon went off on the weekend. I rocked up late Saturday morning to join in on the festivities, hang out and jump with the boys. The weather was the typical island spring deal, sunny one minute, cloudy the next and then sunny and raining at the same time and then sunny again. There was also some afternoon wind but that didn't stop us from having an awesome session. Jordies jumps are rad.
So basically theres 3 lines to do. 1.Straight through a super fun and decent sized 5 pack. 2. Jump to step up onto a banana shapedwooden ramp to air off to huge kicker. 3. Transfer to bigger hip line along the fence. Each line ends in one huge tranny that you can hip or go straight on, depending on where you're coming from and an option of a wall ride or spine out. Sick.
After a full day of practice and fun Saturday, a large chunk of the crew ended up at the Rod and Gun for a bit of a party in the night time. The Rod and Gun. The rest is censored.
Sunday brought some heavy rain in the morning but then it got hot and sunny and after the jumps stopped steaming, they were perfect. Jumpy Jump Jump.......fun fun fun. There was a good turn out of all sorts of riders, a decent sized crowd, both ready for the Qualifiers to begin. Even Craig Lunn crawled out of the house in his sweet green terricloth robe to see what the hell was going on in his backyard.
So after some fun warming up and practicing, the Qualifiers began. It was off to judging duty so I parked my bike for a bit and hung out with Brook, Craig, Kyle Ritchey and Danny Brodie on the scetchy scaffolding where the speakers were blasting Gangstar. Gully, the real gangster, was the announcer on the mike. The Qualifiers consisted of one huge Jam session with 2 riders chosen for the finals every 15 minutes. Riders had to stand out and bust out to be chosen. There ended up being lucky number 13 riders in the finals instead of 12 because we couldn't decide between the Myers bros and Kyle Jaimeson for the last 2 spots. So we were like, what the hell, lets make it 13.
By then, the weather started being an asshole again, so we had a quick break and started the finals right away. With a bit of drizzle coming from the sky, the finalists had 2 runs each on whichever lines they wanted, getting the best of 2 runs score. Some of the best jumpers in the world were at Jordies so we saw some amazing tricks thrown down. Just in time for a bit of a downpour. Ben Boyko took the win with a sick run, tricking every jump and then 360-barspinning the last. The Claw was second only by one less point tricking huge and aggressive off every jump and then wallride to no foot can out. And Brandon Semenuk really stepped it up to take third no problem with his calm clean style and tricks over every jump and a 360 tailwhip on the last jump. The winner took home some cash and they all got some cool Trophies presented at dinner at the house.
It was sunny and warm again and all in all, an awesome weekend just happened. Thanks Morland for hosting the fun and thanks for having us Jordie! PS. I owe you a tube.
